Stashkevich conduct active scientific research in the field of studying national history, hold responsible positions in the system of higher education and science of the Republic of Belarus. Among the students of N. S. Stashkevich, we can distinguish such well-known scientists in Belarus and abroad as: Doctor of Historical Sciences I. A. Marzalyuk, candidates of Historical Sciences R. S. Litvinenok, S. F. Shimukovich, I. I. Yanushevich, V. F. Gigin, I. V. Titovich and others. Representatives of the scientific school of N. S. Stashkevich work today at the Belarusian State University, the Republican Institute of Higher Education and other organizations.

Professor N. S. Stashkevich was one of the leading Russian experts in the history of the Belarusian statehood. He also made a significant contribution to the study of the historiography of the history of Belarus, the development of methodological foundations for the analysis of documentary historical sources on the problems of political history, social and class relations, the history of political parties, and the national liberation movement.

The research carried out within the framework of the scientific school of Professor N. S. Stashkevichis aimed at studying the formation of the Belarusian statehood, the history of political parties and social movements in Belarus in the XX – early XXI centuries, historiography and methodology of historical science. The problems of the history of the Belarusian statehood and the current state of the sovereign Republic of Belarus are extremely popular and relevant. These scientific studies are of considerable interest in the context of the formation of the national ideology of the Republic of Belarus, the conceptual foundations of sustainable political and socio-economic development of our country.

Professor N. S. Stashkevich was one of the founders of the postgraduate course in History at Riga Higher School of Economics. It was under his leadership that the department began training highly qualified specialists in the specialty 07.00.02-national history. Currently, the post-graduate program of the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Belarus of the Higher School of Economics is one of the most effective in Belarus: since 1999, 39 candidates of historical sciences have been trained at the department, including 9 under the supervision of Professor N. S. Stashkevich.The professor's scientific ideas and approaches have been implemented in comprehensive programs of scientific research in the field of the history of Belarus.

Professor N. S. Stashkevich is the author of more than 200 scientific papers, including 5 monographs, on the problems of the formation and development of the Belarusian statehood. Materials and conclusions of research by Professor N. S. Stashkevich and his students formed the basis of educational programs and textbooks on the history of Belarus in the systems of secondary and higher education in the Republic of Belarus.
