The department provides advanced training of managers, teaching staff and teaching and support staff of higher educational institutions and institutions of postgraduate education of the republic in the field of applied informatics - the use of computer technology, modern information and communication technologies in education and research.

The Department of Information Technologies in Education traces its history back to the Department of Education Technologies, established in 1995 by the initiative of Ph.D., Professor V.A. Gaisenka. The work of the department has received international and national recognition - in 2000, on the basis of the department, a meeting "Education via the Internet" of UNESCO experts and a UNESCO IITE workshop "The use of the Internet in education" was held, in 2002-2007. The department was the basic educational and methodological subdivision of the Republican Center for Internet Education, in 2010 the department became the first subdivision in the recent history of the Institute, where citizens of the Union state - the Russian Federation - a group of teachers of the NSU im improved their qualifications. The department carries out its educational, methodical, scientific-methodical and research work in close cooperation with leading universities and institutions of postgraduate education of the republic - in 2006-2007, the department actively contributed to the development and implementation of the e-learning network platform "e-University" at the Belarusian State University, in 2008. with the active participation of the staff of the department, an Internet portal for remote testing of information and communication competencies of employees of general secondary education was developed and updated on the server of the Academy of Postgraduate Education. The staff of the department are developers, participants and performers of a number of industry and state scientific and technical programs, including "Education and Personnel" and "Electronic Belarus".

Teachers and methodologists of the department - the authors of a constantly replenished and updated set of electronic network educational and teaching resources, numerous publications of educational, teaching and methodological and scientific-methodical purposes - have a unique pedagogical experience of "fast" adult education in the effective use of modern information and communication technologies in education and research in the following areas:
